Once I was on a Safari tour with my friends, really wanting to spot a Tiger. Instead, I spotted a Peacock, which took me back to my school days, when I once prepared a 3D paper Peacock.
I could never forget that day because I had received 5 stars for my perfect and well-finished creation. It was then a great feeling embedded with sense of achievement.
Realizing that I still enjoy making crafts but at a larger scale, I wondered why I should keep presenting my loved little-ones with the same age-old, instantly-bought gifts? Why not try something creative and easy to make, that would also give them a sense of specialness?
One of the creative ideas of 3D paper craft Peacock just popped in my mind like it flies with vast feathers in the skies, although peacocks don’t fly so high! I promptly set out to create one and presented it to my toddler niece, to which she was overwhelmed.
Materials you will require:
Time of Preparation: 20 to 30 minutes
Green: Big feather – 7 x 27 cm, the length of 27 will be further divided into four parts of 10 cm, 6 cm, 10 cm and 1 cm. (1 cm is used to fold, paste and help finish the perfect shape of feather)
Small feather –7 x 24 cm, four parts of 9 cm, 5 cm, 9 cm and 1 cm
Blue: Two feathers– 7 x 23 , four parts of 9 cm, 4 cm, 9 cm and 1 cm.
To prepare the train of feathers, I first choose green paper and draw the measurements using pencil or you could use a print too.
Cut it neatly.
Fold it at the last 1 cm part
Paste it by an adhesive, to create a perfect first feather.
Similarly, I repeat for Blue feather as per size mentioned above.
Cut it neat and paste them.
Draw two circles of proportionate size. The measure would be 3 cm radius.
Neatly cut the paper.
Fold both at the centre, to make a crease and appear as seen in the images.
Now, let’s draw some animated feathers. I use blue sketch-pen to draw numerous feathers.
3th Step:-. Now let’s create some life into this 3D paper craft peacock.
Draw the shape of head on yellow paper.
Paste the eyes on both the sides. You could paint them too, as it suits you.
Pick ochre-yellow paper, draw a circle larger than the previous size of feather. Let it be the measure of 5 cm radius. Use protractor or any round object for perfect drawing. Cut it and fold at centre.
Paste the previous feather on this big saddle, as shown below.
Draw many C shapes to appear like a pattern of feathers.
Paste the beautiful head of peacock in between the saddles, at the edge.
Do create two so as to paste it on both the sides
Paste it on the smaller saddle feathers, as shown below
Firstly, paste the saddle with head on the big green feather’s tapering edge.
Then, paste the two blue feathers on the green one, again at tapering edge, on both sides.
Paste the two small Green feathers on the edge of Blue feathers on both sides.
How to gift:
Pack the finished 3D paper craft Peacock in a gift-box with some shredded paper or newspaper cuttings to give it a padded and decorative surrounding. Then, surprise your loved one.
There are various ways to keep it at your home or workplace, too. You can place it on the table or you could hang it using a decorative thread.
While hanging make sure you tie the thread at right spot so as to avoid it leaning on one side and not appear clumsy.
I thought of preparing the thread using my leftover papers themselves, to see how the creative 3D paper craft peacock dangles.
